* re: last post—heh! “tumbleweed.” Picked that word unrelated to the tumble reference.

I feel like my Tumblr is getting to be like an abandoned lot, or a place where tumbleweed* blows through. My not showing up here more is at least threefold: (1.) Tons of shit going on. The way Tumblr is set up, if you’ve lost a few days it’s like eating till you’re uncomfortably full to try to catch up on other people’s posts once you come back, let alone adding stuff to the mix. (And if you skip those posts entirely, well, then maybe you’re doing Tumblr wrong, because aren’t they part of the whole thing? is what you might think.)
(2.) An under-considered but real thing: An uncomfortable portal situation. At the moment I’m working off one of two devices: a thumb-typey iPhone (on it now), or a round-based iMac circa 2003, no kidding. It barely has the memory to keep up with words as I type them. It *doesn’t* have the memory, anymore, to run iTunes while I have a browser open. Zoinks. (3.) There are Major Things going on in my life—The Most Major, few would argue—and while most of the people bothering to read my crap here are tuned in to current events (if not always related minutiae), there’s something about the nature of Tumblr…I’ve tried to clarify this before with meh results…that makes the Sharing of Serious Things feel vaguely unsafe to me here, somehow.

So I guess what I’m saying is that Tumblr doesn’t feel especially fun to me right now. I don’t know how much of it is Tumblr’s fault, as a platform, or a combo of factors (more likely). But if I take this show on the road, I’ll keep you posted.

I introduced my daughter to the Calvin and Hobbes books, and she loves them.  She made this for me.

This is so rad.

THIS IS A SHORT CARTOON THAT I DREW WITH MY OWN HANDS.  I made it around 2006.  What it lacks in quality, it makes up in brevity.  FIFTEEN SECONDS.

My friend Jacob made this cartoon when he was 6 years younger than he is now.

I know we all agree the comments set-up of Tumblr is pretty bogus, but in what little space you’re allotted, I’d like to know, is there one thing in your life (maybe there are even many—you only have to volunteer one) that you rail against but that you prolly really need in your life very much? For me, that’d be some kind of structure/routine. I suppose even my lack of routine has become a routine of its own, but it’s not one I feel especially supported by, if that makes any sense.

Anyway—I’m not asking in a navel-gazey way. I really wanna know. What do you avoid in your own life that you really need? And what’s up with humans doing this, anyway?

It’s such a trip when a late night google search using the almighty search quotes leads you to the mugshot of someone who once lived in your house.

Guys, I’ve got stories coming outta my eyeballs here. Just in general. I don’t know where to start.
